Mission Statement

Postby cozee » Wed Jan 27, 2010 11:06 pm

It is the purpose of The Pen Shop to remain the best little pen turning site on the internet. Small sites are definitely far more personal and personable. Granted, some do not like the closeness of a small site, as just like a family, others can get in your face thus forcing one to get along. We are all the same here, no one member any better than the rest. We admire the work of those who show forth their level of craftsmanship. We freely share what we have learned and encourage those who are just learning. We offer praise and critique alike, as we know they are necessary for both our aptitude and attitude. Honesty is held as a high commodity and criticism kept to a minimum. Growing together is one of life's greatest experiences, whether young and old, novice and mentor, or simply two different view points. The Pen Shop is a place where we can share the very thing we enjoy and yet keep things in perspective that life holds many greater priorities.

I really appreciate this sentiment! I've been on other sites where neophytes and newcomers (to the site) are largely ignored. It seems that if one isn't a part of the "original crowd" then their posts, messages, etc. get little or no response. This site is definitely and positively different than this.

Very well said Dan,
It is exactly that welcoming attitude by the membership that made me join this forum in the first place.
Since i had zero experience when i joined this forum, I needed lots of help and had (and still have) tons of questions.
I checked out quite a number of forums and very quickly discovered the usual "Forum sickness", that is answers by newcomers were basically buzzword one liners or, worse yet, just a bunch of links with no effort made at an explanation.
In contrast, this site offered encouragement and generous advice to everyone, regardless of background.!
At no time have I ever felt that I wasn't part of the "IN" crowd.

I have nothing but praise for the staff and members of this forum.

Adolph,

I absolutely agree. I've mentioned this before, but I'll say it again. I have grown so, so much in the past 3 or so years just from visiting this site. Comments are always friendly and one gets the feeling that others really care, not just about growth in skills, but personally.

I'm proud to be a member of TPS.

Very well thought out mission statement. As a new member I tried not to ask the obviously dumb question. The ones I did ask were always answered politely without sarcasum. I'm a member of other forums besides this one (not pen turning), both large and small, I can assure that is not always the case. This group is by far the nicest bunch of guys(are there any gal members?), I've encountered.

I've spent alot of time reading the older posts getting a feel for the group and the over riding theme is of congeniality. Looking forward to a long educational and friendly association here. :bravo: :clap-bravo: :bravo:

Thank you
